A little Q & A on Stella & Dot Jewelry

Where is the Stella & Dot jewelry manufactured?
Our line is made in India, and the remainder is made in Asia. All of our jewelry is hand-finished by artisans. Where we manufacture a piece depends on many things - India is best for semi-precious stones and hand-finished sterling silver and 14kt gold vermeil, and parts of Asia are best for styles with a high labor intensity such as hand-knotting, casting, etc. We manufacture in the same high-end Asian factories that make jewelry for Neiman Marcus, Bergdorf's and Barneys.

Are the ear wire hypo-allergenic, lead and nickel free?
YES! The majority of our ear wires and posts are sterling silver or 14kt gold vermeil, those that are not are gold or silver plated.

What Causes Silver to Tarnish?
The presence of Hydrogen Sulfide in any material that silver comes into contact with is one of the prime culprits. Touching jewelry after a meal causes tarnish. Wool, perfumes, lotions, hair spray and other cosmetics also cause tarnish. Humidity speeds tarnishing.

How Can I Clean Tarnish?
Ok- so, you're the girl who forgets to take off her makeup before bedtime, not to mention your necklace and despite your love of the Stella & Dot swims in your jewels. Come on, your charm necklace looks good with a bikini! Read jewelry polishing instructions carefully and use ones made for jewelry (3M makes less abrasive types). Some will provide protection from future tarnish. No toothpaste or baking soda - too abrasive!
