The story below is being told by a Canadian Stylist named Kathy. It's an amazing story....
I went to Hoopla last July, and remember someone asked how the names of the Jewelry were chosen. Blythe talked about how sometimes it's fashion icons that are used to name pieces after, sometimes strong or interesting names are used, and she also listens to ideas for names, as well. Stuck that one in my pocket for later use...
Friends of our family had 2 girls, Kristin & Britteny. Kristin was killed in an accident 10 years ago while on a skidoo with a group of friends. No drinking, no horsing around, but was hit by a truck, by total accident in the blinding sun. Totally devastating to everyone around her, family, friends, school, the whole community. An amazing person and family.
Britteny is now in her early 20's and is Miss Rodeo Canada. I diagnosed her with a need for Stella & Dot Jewelry in her fashionable life. She should sell it I told her. This year as Miss Rodeo Canada, she can't work except at this title. So, she will wear the jewelry, I will sponsor her, and she can hand out my business cards. We then go on a pick out jewelry spree-her on her computer, me on mine, on the phone chatting.
She notices the Kelly line and asks if that is a ladybug on the flower, to which I respond "why yes it is." She then starts talking about Kristin, her memory and the correlation to ladybugs. Not just in the garden, at family events, on the farm, everywhere a ladybug could be found or shouldn't be, but specifically at the best friend-Amy's wedding last summer.
The mom of the bride woke up and went to the bride "Amy, Amy, Kristin came to me in a dream. We have to have ladybugs at your wedding, she said we have to have pink ladybugs at your wedding."
So they made little pink ladybug pins and handed them out at the wedding. 300 beautiful little hand painted mementos in memory of Kris. The next day at the gift opening a pink ladybug lands on the bride's knee.
(this is where I interrupt with "ummm, Britteny, ladybugs don't come in pink. The big guy upstairs made 'em in red, orange, even yellow, but not pink")
To which she giggles and says "I know Kathy, but this was a pink ladybug with patches, unlike any ladybug I've ever seen" and sends me a photo of this pink ladybug. (so I google search and find they do actually come in pink, just not in these parts!!)
With Britteny's permission I shared the story with Blythe (Stella & Dot's Jewelry Designer). A few emails back and forth and here is the Kristin line of Jewelry for Little Girls.

Introducing Blythe - Stella & Dot's Chief Creative Officer
How fitting it seems for me to be introducing our new Little Girls Collection of jewelry just days before the birth of my second child. While the circumstances are coincidental, I keep thinking, perhaps it’s fate that our Little Girls Collection will be born about the same time! While I’m still in suspense about the gender of baby #2, I can tell you that baby #1, my precious little Olive, cannot keep her hands off these adorable new styles!
The Little Girls Collection designs came so naturally for me. The starting point was a desire to create a way for little girls to participate in fashion and bond with their moms over something so fun and adorable. Of course, I wanted to build in the versatility and irresistibility we strive for in all Stella & Dot jewelry.
For this collection, inspiration came in a variety of ways… a treasure trove of vintage beads that I found in a flea market… an adorable assortment of ribbons (especially pink gingham)… and Olive’s favorite children’s book: Toes, Ears and Nose by Marion Dane Bauer for its interesting colors. I was also inspired by flower motifs, especially daisies, which were my grandma’s favorite flower. The daisy on the Little Dottie Necklace and Bracelet is actually a custom reproduction of my grandma’s favorite daisy brooch.
My hope is that the Little Girls Collection will inspire moms (or any women with special little girls in their lives) to play together, bond together and perhaps share a blooming love for fashion.
Xoxo,
Blythe Harris
