Cosmo-AKA 'Stella-tini'

Cosmopolitan Cocktail

The classic Cosmopolitan, became one of the favorite cocktails ever due mostly to it's role in the HBO show, Sex and the City. Most bartenders know how to make this light, fruity Martini, making it a great choice for a casual night out. There are hundreds of variations on the Cosmo, some use more or less cranberry juice, some triple sec instead of Cointreau, and some include a citrus vodka. It's all a matter of personal preference, this is the way I like it.

Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 oz vodka
  • 1 oz Cointreau
  • 1/2 oz fresh lime juice
  • 1/4 oz cranberry juice
  • orange peel for garnish

Preparation:

  1. Shake all the ingredients with ice in a cocktail shaker.
  2. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass.
  3. Garnish with an orange peel.

    This is our story.

    Introducing Chandra Clarke (successful mom-preneur)

An Interview with Chandra Clarke of Scribeni:
    Visit her at:  Scribendi

    1. When did you found your web-based business?
I founded Scribendi.com in 1997, back in the early days of the Internet.
    1. How long did you commit to it, before it became profitable?
Believe it or not, Scribendi.com was profitable right from the get-go. When I launched the business, I was the only employee, so it was relatively easy to keep my expenses low. The fact that my business is service-oriented (we provide editing and proofreading services) meant that I didn’t have to worry about buying costly supplies or merchandise. The success of my business depended on how hard I was willing to work.
    1. What inspired you to start your business?
I started my business in order to help connect people to a much needed service. I knew writers could benefit from a fast, affordable alternative to traditional editing (prior to launching Scribendi.com, I worked as a freelance editor and journalist—a position that had me encountering typos and grammatical errors constantly), and the Internet provided me with a unique way to fill this need.
    1. How did you market it, online?
I sort of had to “wing” things in the beginning, as the Internet was still relatively new back in the late ‘90s. Search engine marketing played an important role in my start-up, as did the basic design and functionality of my original website. This is still important to us today.
    1. Do you teach others how to do the same?
I’ve done some mentoring recently, which has been quite enjoyable, but I don’t have a formal teaching or consulting sideline at the moment.
    1. Any tips for moms like me?
Don’t feel like you have to do everything yourself. As moms as well as business owners, there’s a tendency to feel that you have to be responsible for every aspect of everything you do. That’s a good way to get burnt out, fast. Bring on extra help as soon as you can, whether that means hiring a cleaning or lawn mowing service, getting the kids more involved in helping around the house, or hiring another pair of hands at work. Remember, as the visionary behind your business, your time is worth a lot;  the time you’re spending dealing with the dusting could earn you a lot more if you invested it in growing the business.
    1. How would you inspire your consultants to leadership?  Do you think the $ is more motivating...or the recognition/awards?
Most of the studies I’ve seen suggest that job satisfaction is, on balance, more important to people than money. Obviously, you need to pay a fair wage so that people can pay their bills and live comfortably, but providing interesting and meaningful work, and recognizing people’s efforts frequently and appropriately can go a long way to keeping staff happy and motivated.
